borrowing is at an al time low, car finance is now almost impossible to get.

if the govt offered credit worthy people loans for house purchase and car purchase would that help to kick start the UK economy in the motor and construction industry.

it has been announced that the british car show has been cancelled for the first time since the second world war because of the financial situation

if banks will not lend then should the govt not lend instead?

what the government should have done was waited til the banks were at the lowest price, bought them, sacked all the managers, hired new competent people, offered mortgages loans etc, waited til the value of the stock rose, sold the banks off and given the tax payer all of the proceeds

thats how a free market really works
not the shambolic example of corporatism we are witnessing

UK Student Visa for Canadian student – Applying in UK

Some of you may have read my other posts, for you that have not I will include links to them at the bottom of this post. Feel free to comment and add your suggestions.
I am still in the process of applying for my Perspective Student Visa. But I want to have everything in order for all the steps I need to take to be a student in the UK. I want to be able to apply for my Student Visa while I am in the UK. I would like to avoid the extra expense of having to fly back to Canada then return to the UK just because I forgot to “dot an i or cross a t”, if that is at all possible. I want to study in Wales. I am not sure if I will be accepted to a University or have to do some schooling at a college my first year or two in the UK. Is there different ways to applying to either?

So let us say for now that I have visited the schools that I was interested in. I have been accepted into a University and would like to take their offer. I am in the process of applying for my Student Visa. What should I make certain I do?

What do I need for this?
1)The entire list of documents sent in for my Perspective Student Visa

2)Letter of Acceptance from the school of my choice, the Visa Letter I believe it is called?

3)A letter or documents from the Canadian government; showing that I am on a Student Loan, that covers the school of my choice tuition and fees and my maintenance? What is this called?

4)Information on the address, residence, where I will be living in the UK. It is a private residence that is rented by another person. I will be renting a room off of the tenant that pays the main rent and utility bills.
a)Do I need to give information about the others living there?
b)Do I need to include my rental amount per month?
c)Do I need to show a rental agreement between myself and the main tenant?
d)Do I need permission to live there from the actual owner of the residence?

I am aware that students are allowed to work a few hours a month while doing their studies. I would prefer to be able to devote all of my time to studies, but I also understand that it can be expensive to live there. I have done comparisons with the grocery shops there online with the ones here. I have found from that research, to my surprise that the food is either the same cost and in most situations cheaper then I pay for it here where I live. It could just be the area I am living in, as I already know that it is more expensive than other areas in Canada. I have also spent time looking at the cost of renting places over there. I can get a larger place, that looks better then the place I am currently living in here for cheaper then I pay per month. Again that could be due to where I live and where I am planning to go to school in Wales.

5)Do international students who are studying in the UK need a National Insurance Number?
a)If so, how does a student go about applying for the National Insurance Number?
b)If I end up needing to work while I am in the UK on my Student Visa to help cover my cost, do I need anything else?
c)How can I find out if a perspective employer is allowed to hire International Students?
6)I have been told that applying for a bank account in the UK can be a bit difficult.
a)Is it true that I will need the National Insurance Number to apply for a bank account?
b)Do I also need a utility bill with my name on it?
c)What other identification could I use to open a bank account?
d)Would the documents for my student loan be usable for attaining a bank account, it would have my UK address on it.
e)Can I apply for a UK bank account while still in Canada, online?

I know that I can be allowed to apply for the UK Student Visa while I am still in the UK and after I have been accepted into a school. I also know that I could end up having to apply for my UK Student Visa back in Canada. I would like to avoid having to fly back to Canada just to fill out some documents and then accrue the extra expense of flying back to the UK to attend school.

For this let us say that I came to the UK on April 6 2010.

7)My passport is stamped that I arrived in the UK on April 6 2010. The Visa attached to it is a Perspective Student Visa, I have 6 months to find a school, apply and get accepted. That would be Oct 6 2010.
a)What date would I be able to apply for my UK Student Visa in the UK? I believe that it is a month before studies start, but what if my Perspective Student Visa is not void (runs out) until after school is in?
b)The first day the school opens back up for the Fall Term is on September 27. The first week is a fresher week. The following week studies/teaching starts. Does that first week count as being at school?
c)What is the best way to apply for the UK Student Visa? Should I send it in by courier post? Or should I apply in person? I know the fees are more for applying in person, but I am concerned about sending

Too long questions.

1) You need offer letter from the University, offering you a full time course with 15 hours per week or more for a duration of longer than six months. If you don’t have it you cannot apply for Student visa. There is no such thing "prospective student visa" (its actually a visit visa allowing one to study for less than six months, non-extendible. You must apply for full student visa & in Canada not in UK. Now please read further).

2) Lease agreement is handy if its privately rented place. Alternatively a letter from University, confirming that you can live on-campus.

3) If u intend to work, u can only do it in 2010. The allowed time is 20 hours in week of 7 days & full time during holidays from school/Uni. You will apply for National Insurance number, once u have the job offer. (Keep in mind that from 1st Jan 2011, UK Government is bringing in new rules of banning all kind of work for non-EU students).

4) Please bring three last bank statements from Canada with you, and opening Student bank account wont be a problem, as far as u can show the Bank Manager, a letter from University with ur enrollment in a course. You cannot apply online for bank account in UK, proof required that ur stay in UK will be as student (copy of page of visa & copy of page with Entry in UK stamp required).

As far as I know for student visa you must apply in person & you will be interviewed by visa officer in UK High Commission. Please use the website (UKVISAS, printed below) to book an interview appointment.

Ok Guys, applied for a loan this morning with 1 month loan, they debited 10p from my debit card, a lady phoned me to confirm my details and told me that it was approved and the money had been transferred to clear before 5pm. At 9.30am i received an email saying "Your funds have now been deposited and will be available by 5pm"….. at 2.48pm, i received yet another email "Your funds have now been deposited and will be available by 5pm"….. based on this, i transferred what i had left in my account to pay a bill. I then received an email saying "Sorry we cannot verify your bank details, please send us 3 months worth of bank statements, plus a utility bill, plus photo ID"….. Now, i dont have time to do this before the cut off time, and now im left with nothing based on their untruthful emails. They never called or anything, i already told the girl i knew 10p had been taken as verification, this clearly confirms the account is mine. I dont want anyone saying "DONT USE payday loanS" cos i know not to, but i had no other option, where do i stand with this…..
